Initial Assessment
When you enrol on our online GCSE Maths course, you'll start with a short Initial Assessment to establish the level you're currently working at. This provides a quick and accurate snapshot of your existing maths knowledge, giving you a clear picture of where you stand before diving into your revision.
The assessment covers a broad range of core GCSE maths skills, enabling the system to pinpoint your strengths and flag any areas that may need extra attention. By identifying these gaps early, the course can point you towards the most relevant starting topics and ensure your revision is focused where it will make the biggest difference.
Completing the Initial Assessment means your learning journey gets off to the right start. Rather than spending time on topics you've already mastered, you can direct your efforts towards the areas where improvement will have the greatest impact, building knowledge and confidence as you work towards your GCSE maths exam.

GCSE Maths FAQs
Can I resit my maths GCSE?
Yes, you can resit your maths GCSE if you didn’t achieve the grade you were hoping for. Many universities, colleges, and employers require a Grade 4 or above in maths GCSE, so a resit could be essential for accessing certain courses or career paths. Simply book your private GCSE maths exam through Pass and we’ll handle all the arrangements so you can focus on your revision.
Can I resit maths GCSE as a private candidate?
Yes, Pass can register you as a private candidate and book you in with a local exam centre. We take care of everything involved in securing your GCSE maths exam place, so there’s nothing for you to worry about. Ready to get started? Book your private GCSE maths exam with Pass today.
When can I sit a GCSE maths exam?
GCSE maths exams are available twice a year, in May and November. School-age students often opt for the November sitting for their resit. With two exam windows per year, you have plenty of time to prepare and our Exam + Course option is the ideal way to make the most of that time. Sitting GCSE maths privately is a popular choice for both those retaking the qualification and external candidates.
Can I take a GCSE maths exam online?
GCSE Maths exams must be taken in person at an approved exam centre and cannot be completed online. However, there are excellent alternatives available, such as a Functional Skills Level 2 Maths exam or a GCSE Maths equivalency exam, both of which can be taken online.
Is there a maths GCSE resit option for adults?
Absolutely! Resitting maths GCSE as an adult is more common than you might think, and there’s no age restriction on taking the exam. The booking process through Pass is the same regardless of your age and, together with our online GCSE courses, is the perfect opportunity for booking and studying for your GCSEs online. Whether you’re looking to develop new skills, qualify for a particular job, or meet the entry requirements for an apprenticeship or further education, a maths GCSE resit could be the right move.
Which exam boards do you offer?
We offer GCSE maths private exams across a range of exam boards, including Edexcel, AQA, OCR, WJEC, and IGCSE. Whichever board you choose, we’ll register you as a private candidate and get everything set up on your behalf.
What is the pass mark for the GCSE maths exam?
The pass mark varies from year to year as grade boundaries are standardised based on the difficulty of that year’s exam. For the Foundation tier, a Grade 4 typically requires a score of around 50–65%, though this can vary. For the Higher tier, the threshold for a Grade 4 is considerably lower, usually around 20–25%, reflecting the increased difficulty of the paper.
Where do I sit my exams?
All exams are held at a centre local to you. Get in touch and we’ll help identify the most convenient exam centre for your maths GCSE resit, registering you as a private candidate and sorting everything out. Book your GCSE exams with Pass to get the ball rolling.
What is a fast-track GCSE maths qualification?
A fast-track GCSE maths qualification allows you to revise and sit your exam in a much shorter timeframe than the traditional school or college route. Many learners complete the full qualification in under 12 months, with some finishing in as little as six months or less.
Can I access free revision materials?
